The Edison Electric Institute has promoted Scott Aaronson to the newly created position of EEI executive director, security and business continuity. Prior to this, Aaronson served as EEI managing director, cyber and critical infrastructure security.

Aaronson will continue to serve as a member of the secretariat for the Electricity Subsector Coordinating Council (ESCC), which serves as the principal liaison between the federal government and the electric power sector, with the mission of coordinating efforts to prepare for, and respond to, nation-level disasters or threats to critical infrastructure.

“The consolidation of the industry’s efforts on cyber and physical security, business continuity, and storm restoration underscores the criticality of these issues. Scott’s experience supporting the ESCC has prepared him to lead this important new EEI group,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn.

Aaronson will lead EEI’s infrastructure security and business continuity teams, which include the national response planning initiatives led by EEI Senior Director Chris Eisenbrey and the security initiatives led by EEI Senior Director David Batz.

Aaronson joined EEI in 2009, starting in the government relations department where he focused on security and several emerging technology issues, including grid modernization and telecommunications priorities.

Prior to joining EEI, Aaronson was a senior adviser to Members of Congress serving the 12th Congressional District of California, including former House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Tom Lantos. From 2001 to 2007, he served as an economic policy adviser to U.S. Senator Bill Nelson.

Aaronson received his bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and a master’s degree from The Graduate School of Political Management at The George Washington University.

Aaronson and his wife live in Washington, D.C., with their two daughters.
