Officials will provide information and take public comment on the state's proposed Clean Energy Standard. The program mandates that 50 percent of all electricity consumed in New York by 2030 come from clean and renewable energy sources.
The mandate is part of Reforming the Energy Vision, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's strategy to create a more efficient energy system.
Hearings begin Tuesday in Binghamton and also will be held upstate in Albany, Amherst, Rochester, Oswego, Plattsburgh, Syracuse and Kingston.
Hearings also are slated for Long Island, and the boroughs of Queens and Manhattan.
The Public Service Commission is expected to consider the proposal sometime this summer.
