A new report by a conservation group says 10 sunny states are throwing shade at rooftop solar development via destructive policy landscapes.
Tuesday's report from the Center for Biological Diversity, titled “Throwing Shade," says those mainly Midwest and Southern states are essentially discouraging rooftop solar.
Florida potentially could be as high as 3rd in rooftop solar deployment if it wrapped its arms around the technology, according to the CBD.
Report author Greer Ryan says those 10 states' weak or nonexistent policies mean their distributed solar power markets, "have never been given a chance to shine."
The CBD says the states to make several changes, including strengthening billing mechanisms that can credit solar power system owners for electricity they add to the grid.
