Pennsylvania agency seeks input on permit for 1,000 MW Tenaska power plant

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection will hold a Jan. 26 public hearing on an Air Quality Plan approval application for the proposed Tenaska Pennsylvania Partners power plant in South Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County.

Tenaska's Westmoreland Generating Station is a proposed natural gas-fired combined cycle plant having an approximate generating capacity of 1,000 MW, the DEP noted in a Jan. 8 announcement.

The DEP issued an Air Quality Plan approval to the company in April 2015 to construct and initially operate the power plant. However, the company received new emissions data from the manufacturer of the natural gas-fired steam turbine generators to be used at the facility.

That data indicated that the startup and shutdown emissions and the facility-wide potential to emit were reduced from the original emission estimates.

The public comment period will end at the close of business on Feb. 5.
