The Tennessee Valley Authority’s South Pittsburg transmission project is nearing completion and expected to be in service Dec. 1, according to spokespersons with TVA and Sequachee Valley Electric Cooperative.

The South Pittsburg project is a six-mile, 161-kV line being added to address growing industrial demand in the southeast Tennessee region. When completed, it will extend from TVA’s existing Nickajack-Raccoon Mountain transmission line to a new South Pittsburg substation being added by SVEC.

According to TransmissionHub data, the project is expected to cost $10 million.

TVA expects to complete its portion of the project this month, and will wait for the substation to be completed before energizing the line, the TVA spokesperson told TransmissionHub on Nov. 13.

SVEC had a unit of Quanta Services construct the substation, the SVEC spokesperson told TransmissionHub on Nov. 13.

“We hope to energize the station Dec. 1,” he said.
