Smart Grid Interoperability Panel wins NIST funding opportunity

2-day NIST workshop to explore designed-in cybersecurity for Smart Cities; will discuss unifying architectures, standards, R&D strategies

The Smart Grid Interoperability Panel has won the Smart Grid Interoperability Standards Cooperative Agreement Program federal funding opportunity from the U.S Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The Smart Grid Interoperability Standards Cooperative Agreement Program is designed with substantial NIST participation to support continuous innovation of the power grid through the coordination and acceleration of standards development and harmonization and advancement of the interoperability and security of smart grid devices and systems.

As the recipient of the federal funding award, the SGIP will receive $2.1 million during the performance period of January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2018.

“Winning this award demonstrates SGIP’s experience and credentials in executing this strategic initiative,” said Sharon Allan, President and CEO of the SGIP. “We are confident that SGIP has the right expertise including the right team, proven experience, methods and processes, to execute as NIST’s chosen partner in driving grid modernization through collaboration to establish a self-sustaining, ongoing process beyond the funding period.”
