ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state is giving low-cost electricity to 15 businesses around the state as part of a program to use affordable power as an economic development tool.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office announced the newest winners of the ReCharge NY incentive on Thursday. The list of businesses includes Amazon LLC in New York City and Bausch & Lomb in Rochester. Other companies are in the Mohawk Valley, the Southern Tier, long Island and western New York.

ReCharge NY allows selected businesses to buy low-cost power from the New York Power Authority in exchange for commitments to expand or create more jobs. About half of the power is generated from hydroelectric plants.

The companies announced Thursday have promised to retain more than 1,600 jobs and create more than 730 new ones.
