Edison Electric Institute honors nation’s power line workers

The Edison Electric Institute celebrates National Lineman Appreciation Day and salutes the men and women who risk their lives each day to keep electricity safe and reliable for all Americans.

Lineworkers construct and maintain the electric transmission and distribution facilities that deliver reliable electricity to millions of homes and businesses. These dedicated professionals are indispensable in their work to provide service for all electricity customers.

Reliable, affordable, and increasingly clean electricity is essential to our nation’s economy and powers every aspect of our daily lives, directly enabling everything from manufacturing to e-commerce to entertainment.

“Our nation’s lineworkers put themselves in harm’s way each and every day to ensure electricity is reliably delivered to our homes and businesses,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “Lineworkers are always on call, and these dedicated men and women respond quickly, often working in dangerous conditions, to restore service to customers. Today we honor and thank them for their dedication and service, and recognize the critical role they play in powering America.”

To honor the nation’s lineworkers, U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-S.C.) introduced H.R.127 in support of designating March 31, 2015, as National Lineman Appreciation Day.

EEI is the association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies. Our members provide electricity for 220 million Americans, operate in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, and directly employ more than 500,000 workers. EEI has 70 international electric companies as affiliate members, and 270 industry suppliers and related organizations as associate members.
