Exelon Generation promotes nuclear energy execs

Michael J. Pacilio, Exelon Nuclear's president and chief nuclear officer since 2010, has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Exelon Generation LLC, the company announced.

Bryan Hanson, Exelon Nuclear COO, has been promoted to senior vice president, Exelon Generation, and president and chief nuclear officer of Exelon Nuclear, replacing Pacilio.

Pacilio will have day-to-day operational responsibility for the safety, efficiency and reliability of Exelon Generation's power generation fleet, which includes more than 100 generating units in 17 states. Exelon Generation produces electricity from 10 fuel types including nuclear, natural gas, hydro, wind and solar. Pacilio will report to Exelon Generation President and CEO Kenneth W. Cornew.

Pacilio has more than 30 years of experience with the company and nuclear plant operations. He has served in various leadership positions within Exelon Nuclear, including COO, senior vice president of Midwest operations, and site vice president and plant manager at several Exelon nuclear generating stations. Among other accomplishments, Pacilio led the U.S. nuclear industry's development of two national nuclear emergency response centers as part of the industry's response to the 2011 Fukushima events in Japan.

Hanson, as president and CNO, takes over operational and organizational responsibility for the largest fleet of nuclear power stations in the nation, with more than 11,000 employees and 23 reactors at 14 locations in Illinois, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Hanson will report to Pacilio.

Hanson most recently was chief operating officer of Exelon Nuclear and responsible for the daily operations of the nuclear fleet. Hanson's other leadership positions at Exelon included senior vice president of Midwest operations and site vice presidents at the Braidwood and Clinton generating stations in Illinois.

Exelon Nuclear is a business unit of Exelon Generation, which is a unit of Exelon Corp. Both promotions are effective immediately.
