Alberta wind farm reaches commercial operation

The 300 MW Blackspring Ridge Wind Project has reached commercial operation and is now connected to the Alberta power grid.

EDF EN Canada Inc., a unit of EDF Energies Nouvelles, and Enbridge Inc. acquired the project from Greengate Power Corp. for $5.9 million.

EDF EN Canada and Enbridge each own 50 percent of the project.

The project utilizes 166 Vestas V100-1.8 MW wind turbines. EDF EN Canada built the project under a fixed price engineering, procurement and construction contract.

Renewable energy credits (RECs) generated from the project are contracted to Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) under a 20-year purchase agreement.
