Basin Electric brings new gas plant generation unit online

A new natural gas-fired unit was brought online March 1 at Basin Electric Power Cooperative's 45 MW Pioneer peaking power plant near Williston, North Dakota.

The $50 million power plant's Unit 1 began commercial operation September 2013, with Unit 2 entering service February 1, 2014. The plant has a 135 MW total power generation capacity, according to Basin Electric.

The Pioneer plant is linked to a 115-kV transmission line.
