ERCOT ends cold weather power grid alert

Intensely cold weather caused the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to issue an emergency electric power alert until conditions stabilized on the morning of January 6.

The Texas power grid operator asked electricity customers to conserve energy as home and business owners used large amounts of electricity to power their heaters.

ERCOT reported that there are no rotating power outages at this time, although power reserves did at one point drop beneath 1.75 GW.
