Southern Power, Turner Renewable Energy solar energy project powers up

The Spectrum Solar Facility, a 30 MW solar photovoltaic installation in Nevada using solar tracking technology, has begun commercial operation. Southern Power, a unit of Southern Co. in partnership with Turner Renewable Energy, bought the project.

The plant was built by SunEdison, which will also operate and maintain the project. Nevada Power, one of the two principal units doing business as NV Energy, will buy the electricity generated by the facility under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy acquired the project from SunEdison in September 2012. It is one of five projects jointly acquired by the two companies.
