Report: Smart grid offers tangible benefits

A fully deployed smart grid has the potential of saving every electric power customer at least $39.69 or as much as $101.57 per year on their electric bills.

Such a high-tech transmission system could also shrink that same consumer's carbon footprint by as much as 592 pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent per year. This is according to a new report by the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative (SGCC).

The report, titled "Smart Grid Economic and Environmental Benefits," finds that smart grid investments lead to greater electric reliability and additional consumer choices.
