Oglethorpe Power Corp. names new president, CEO

The board of directors at Oglethorpe Power Corp. unanimously appointed Michael L. Smith as its new president and CEO. Smith will assume his new role effective November 6, 2013.

Since 2005, Smith has served as president and CEO of Georgia Transmission Corp. and has over thirty years of energy industry experience in the areas of finance, risk control and operations.

During Smith's tenure as president and CEO, Georgia Transmission grew in assets from $1.4 billion to $2 billion, according to Oglethorpe.

Smith's position with Georgia Transmission, an electric cooperative that provides transmission services to Georgia distribution electric membership cooperatives, has also allowed him to develop relationships with the 38 members of Georgia Transmission and Oglethorpe.
