U.S. firm to equip Canadian peaking plant

American Electric Technologies will supply an integrated electrical protection and controls solution for a 65 MW peaking plant in Alberta, Canada.

The power distribution and control systems will provide generator synchronization, fault protection and management of power to run the plant and integrate with the grid. The 10 generator sets onsite at the Alberta plant use natural gas to generate 65 MW of clean power.

In addition, all operations can be run locally, from a common control and SCADA panel or remotely, according to Power Engineering.

The control systems are expected to be shipped in the third quarter of 2013. The name of the customer and terms of the deal were not disclosed.
