Squirrel knocks out power to 9,000, says Portland General Electric

Portland General Electric (PGE) said July 1 that there are 9,000 people without power in their Multnomah County, Oregon service territory because of a "squirrel-related" power grid problem.

The power outage affected southeast Portland, and the utility reports that crews are responding to repair damage to the power grid in the city. The utility, which provides electric power to about half of Oregon's population, reported the power outage and its causes on its Twitter feed.
