PSO requests proposals for wind energy resources

American Electric Power unit Public Service Co. of Oklahoma (PSO) issued a request for proposals (RFP) seeking long-term purchases of up to 200 MW of new wind energy resources.

According to the RFP, proposals must rely on wind projects which are in advanced stage of development and capable of taking advantage of the federal production tax credits to buy-down the cost of energy bid to PSO.

The delivery period would begin on January 1, 2016 and any contracts entered into as a result of this RFP would be subject to approvals from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

A pre-bid conference call for potential bidders will be conducted June 19 with proposals to be submitted by July 1.

The renewable RFP will fulfill a portion of PSO’s energy requirements consistent with the company’s latest integrated resource plan as any purchases under the RFP will largely go to replace a PPA, which is expiring at the end of 2015.

PSO, a unit of American Electric Power (AEP), is an electric utility company serving more than 540,000 customers in eastern and southwestern Oklahoma.  Headquartered in Tulsa, PSO has 4,269 MW of generating capacity and provides electricity to 232 cities and towns across a service area encompassing 30,000 square miles.
