Northeast Utilities, a New England utility serving more than 3.6 million electric customers will use the Everbridge system for its emergency and daily incident management communications.
Northeast Utilities faces many issues during and after major storms. Northeast Utilities uses the Everbridge’s system frequently during power outages and major storms, such as Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy. The Everbridge system enables Northeast Utilities to communicate with employees, even when the cell phone towers are overwhelmed and phone lines are not working.
In addition to emergencies, Northeast Utilities uses the Everbridge system on a non-emergency basis for white powder incidents and small fires and evacuations, among other incident types. Northeastern Utilities runs large-scale mock exercises with their operating companies using the Everbridge system.
Some of the lessons learned from these exercises include preparing boilerplate messages in advance that can address a wide range of incidents as well as creating call lists ahead of time.
