Cleco workers leave for tornado-damaged areas of Oklahoma to help restore power

Workers with Cleco Corp. left for Oklahoma City to repair damage to Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co.'s (OG&E) system. The company sent 33 line mechanics to help clean up storm damage.

Cleco crews leave just seven days after returning from helping OG&E rebuild its system in Moore, Okla., after a devastating tornado hit the area.

Cleco sent 34 workers on May 21 to assist OG&E restore power one day after an EF5 tornado hit Moore. The tornado killed 24 and demolished the utility's electric system. The storm Friday, May 31 brought torrential rains, hail, flooding and multiple tornadoes, killing at least nine people.

Cleco is a member of the Southeastern Electric Exchange's mutual assistance program where member utilities offer power restoration assistance after major weather events.

Cleco owns a regulated electric utility company, Cleco Power LLC, which owns nine generating units with a total nameplate capacity of 2,565 MW and serves about 283,000 customers in Louisiana through its retail business and 10 communities across Louisiana and Mississippi through wholesale power contracts. Cleco also owns a wholesale energy business, Cleco Midstream Resources LLC, which owns two generating units with a total nameplate capacity of 775 megawatts.
