Wartsila to supply backup generators for Finnish nuclear power plant

Wartsila will supply emergency diesel generators for the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant in Finland. The diesel generators, which are a part of the power plant's safety systems, are for the Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 units. The contract was signed with Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO).

Wartsila will supply the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of the process equipment. The emergency generating power will be supplied by nine Wartsila 32 engines running on light fuel oil.

Wartsila will also supply all the necessary auxiliary equipment for the plant. These diesel generators are intended for back-up use to secure the power supply for the nuclear plant. The Wartsila equipment will be delivered and installed in phases starting from 2016.

TVO is a Finnish electricity generating public company that owns and operates two nuclear power plants in Olkiluoto on the west coast of Finland. A third nuclear power plant unit is currently under construction.
