Units remain offline at LaSalle nuclear power plant

Exelon Generation restored power to the switchyard at the LaSalle County Generating Station in Illinois on April 18 and terminated an unusual event at the plant. Both units at the plant remain offline until workers perform safety inspections.

Power from the switchyard was lost after workers say lightning may have struck. The plant responded as designed and safely shut down. An unusual event was declared with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

The LaSalle nuclear power plant serves the Chicago metropolitan area and the northern half of Illinois. It is located near Seneca, Illinois and its two GE boiling water reactors are capable of generating about 1,150 MW each.
