Areva delivers generators to nuclear power plant

Areva delivered two steam generators to Xcel Energy (NYSE: XEL)'s Prairie Island nuclear power plant in Minnesota on April 11, marking the end of a 10-week journey that started at Areva's Chalon/St. Marcel facility in France.

The generators, each 70 feet tall and weighing 330 tons, traveled by barge to the Mediterranean Sea before being shipped across the Atlantic Ocean and up the Mississippi River to the plant. They will be stored on-site until they are installed during a planned refueling outage in the fall.

Xcel ordered the replacement steam generators for the power plant as part of a generator replacement program that began in 2004 and 2006.
