Fujitsu utility practice leader named to UTC Smart Networks Council board

Fujitsu named the election of Utility Practice Director of Fujitsu Network Communications John S. Chowdhury to the board of directors for the Smart Networks Council (SNC), part of the Utilities Telecom Council (UTC) global trade association.

“John’s experiences and achievements in the utility and telecom industries have clearly established him as an expert and a pioneer in the modernization of utilities communications networks,” said Connie Durcsak, UTC CEO and president. “John has dedicated his professional life to helping utilities be prepared for the adoption and integration of smart grid-driven initiatives. We are thrilled to have him serve on the Smart Networks Council board of directors where his know-how will help guide the important work of our council members.”

Chowdhury said he looks forward to the evolution of utility communications networks.

“As a group, we will ensure the full complement of grid applications, including substation automation, distribution automation, CVR/VVAR and AMI backhaul, are supported with the requisite security, data transport speed, low-latency and priority-of-service.”

During his 25-year career, Chowdhury has provided strategic business and technology guidance to energy entities in: smart grid, advanced metering infrastructure and distribution automation; business case development; customer relationship management and billing; and telecommunications and wireless networks.

His work with utilities and governments includes having architected the first smart grid solution in the U.S. As utility practice director at Fujitsu, Chowdhury develops network integration solutions, modernization programs and network operations offerings tailored to support utilities as they adapt their communications networks to meet new demands for scalability, reliability, standards and security.
