ComEd prepares for severe winter storm

As northern Illinois awaits what is anticipated to be a severe and damaging winter storm, ComEd is preparing additional crews and equipment to respond quickly to expected power outages.

In addition to ComEd crews, the utility's efforts include the mobilization of close to 200 contractor and mutual assistance crews in anticipation of up to 10 inches of snow and winds as high as 50 miles per hour that could potentially disrupt electric service for customers.

"This winter storm is expected to be especially damaging to our system as we face a potential combination of wind, snow and ice," said Terence Donnelly, executive vice president and chief operating officer, ComEd. "We have increased staffing levels and proactively requested assistance from other utilities to ensure we are ready to quickly and safely begin power restoration efforts."

Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) is a unit of Chicago-based Exelon Corp. the nation's leading competitive energy provider, with about 6.6 million customers. ComEd provides service to about 3.8 million customers across northern Illinois, or 70 percent of the state's population.
