Plant Vogtle Unit 1 back online

Birmingham, Ala., April 17, 2012 — Operators at the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant safely brought the facility's Unit 1 back online at 2:27 p.m. ET Monday after employees worked through a water pump issue. Feedwater pumps provide water to the steam generators.

The unit was taken offline April 14 at about 1:30 p.m. ET in accordance with nuclear procedures and processes.

All Plant Vogtle safety systems operated as designed, and operators responded as they are trained. Plant Vogtle's Unit 2 continues to produce electricity reliably at 100 percent power.
