FirstEnergy to complete SPANS deployment across Ohio

Mukwonago, Wisc., February 27, 2012 — FirstEnergy Corp. is in the process of implementing Wind Lake Solutions' Spatially-enabled Permitting and Notification System (SPANS) within its Cleveland Electric Illuminating unit.

With this implementation, SPANS will be in use by all three of FE's Ohio operating companies. SPANS was implemented at Ohio Edison in 2008 and Toledo Edison in early 2011.

SPANS is a hosted web-based solution designed to electronically and centrally manage inter-company communications associated with inter-company pole attachment projects. WLS completed SPANS configuration changes to support CEI's requirements for management of jointly-owned poles in January.

WLS' SPANS is a hosted web-based solution designed to electronically and centrally manage inter-company communications associated with joint use pole attachment projects. SPANS' configurability allows each system deployment to be tailored to the specific informational and workflow requirements of user companies.
