Palo Alto, Calif., October 3, 2011 — Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, a member-owned electric utility that provides service to 22 counties in Virginia, has chosen Full Spectrum's FullMAX Broadband Wireless system for its private, wide-area, smart grid communications network.
The wireless network is a critical part of REC's Department of Energy sponsored smart grid initiative. The network will be used to transport mission critical data traffic including SCADA and Automatic Metering Infrastructure (AMI) information.
In addition to remote meter reading and control, REC's smart grid network enables real-time load management of the electric utility distribution system, an essential capability for improving overall system reliability and managing peak demand.
FullMAX provides a wireless IP data connection to both the AMI and SCADA systems installed at the electric substations throughout REC's service territory.
