Marlborough, Mass., October 25, 2011 — BRIDGE Energy Group will serve as the smart grid integration partner for Bermuda Electric Light Co., Bermuda's sole supplier of electricity.
BRIDGE won the first phase of an enterprise application integration project, which is BELCO's strategic initiative to define its information technology and operations technology roadmap for the next several years, as they prepare to implement a smarter grid to support future potential initiatives across distribution automation, demand response, distributed generation, renewables and energy efficiency programs.
BRIDGE will use of utility-centric standards such as CIM and IEC61850 alongside its own open Smart Grid Reference Architecture (openSGRA). The first phase will include a close examination of BELCO's business processes to evaluate how they cut across all of these applications, followed by the integration of two critical applications — BELCO's asset management system and geographic information system (GIS).
The EAM-to-GIS integration, supported by BRIDGE, will allow BELCO to leverage more advanced asset management practices in the field, ensure improved data quality and leverage more actionable business intelligence.
