Alstom will upgrade American Electric Power's 1,300 MW coal-fired power plant fleet

Paris, October 4, 2011 — Alstom has been awarded a framework contract worth $150 million over the next several years by American Electric Power to upgrade the low pressure steam turbines across their 1,300 MW coal-fired power plant fleet.

The fleet upgrade framework contract includes seven plants located in Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia. AEP's 1,300 MW coal fleet is among the largest in the world.

Alstom will upgrade the LP steam turbines by implementing its rotating and stationary blade design technology.

The upgrade will allow AEP to continue to operate its assets with an improved efficiency and a high level of reliability. The upgrades will be performed over a period of several years, with the first unit being commissioned in 2013.
