Washington. D.C., July 25, 2011 — The GridWise Alliance announced that James "Jim" Morozzi will serve as the Alliance's first CEO. Morozzi was named CEO by the board of directors following an extensive search that began earlier this year.
"The GridWise Alliance board of directors is pleased to name Jim Morozzi, a proven leader in the industry, as the organization's first-ever CEO," said Bob Shapard, Chairman of the GridWise Alliance. "Grid advancement has the potential to save consumers billions of dollars and improve the reliability of the system. As the GridWise Alliance enters into the next phase of its growth amidst the expansion of the grid, it's important for us to have a leader like Jim, whose background and experience make him ideally suited to lead the Alliance in meeting the challenges ahead."
Morozzi currently serves as an independent advisor and consultant to various entities in the electric and telecommunications industries. Prior to his current work, he was director, president and CEO of D&E Communications, Inc., a publicly-traded provider of local, long distance, Internet access, voice, data, video and computer networking services.
Previously, he served as president of Exelon Communications, an operating division of Exelon Corp., which provided wireless and competitive local exchange carrier telecom services in the Greater Philadelphia area. His early career was in general management, corporate planning and development, operations and engineering with PECO Energy Co.
Throughout his career, Morozzi has led the growth of multiple business units. He led the PECO Wireless/AT&T Wireless joint venture, from start up to more than $280 million in revenue over a seven-year period.
Former Alliance Chairman Guido Bartels spearheaded this extensive effort along with the international search firm of Heidrick & Struggles.
Mr. Morozzi will begin as GridWise Alliance CEO effective August 1.
