Former energy secretary Spencer Abraham joins International Battery

Allentown, Pa., April 18, 2011 — International Battery, a U.S. manufacturer, designer, and developer of large-format lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and grid-scale systems, announced the appointment of former Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham to its board of directors.

Spencer Abraham is the chairman and CEO of The Abraham Group, an international strategic consulting firm based in Washington, D.C. He served as secretary of energy under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005.

Prior to that appointment, Abraham served in the U.S. Senate (Michigan) for six years, where he chaired two subcommittees: Manufacturing and Competitiveness, and Immigration.

He is currently the Non-Executive Chairman of Areva, Inc. and a member of the board of directors of Occidental Petroleum. In addition, he is a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution, and author of Lights Out. He holds a law degree from Harvard University.

"I am very pleased to join this effort to help an American leader in new technology. The urgent need to upgrade the U.S. grid was one of the focal areas of my tenure at the Department of Energy and it's particularly satisfying to be part of a company pioneering the very technologies we envisioned then," said Secretary Abraham.

Headquartered in Allentown, Pa., International Battery is a U.S. manufacturer, designer, and developer of large-format prismatic lithium-ion rechargeable cells and batteries for use in a wide range of transportation, industrial, electric utility, smart grid and military applications, employing a uniquely environmentally friendly manufacturing process.
