Alstom starts Phase 2 of KMC's 800 MW gas-fired power plant in Singapore

Paris, April 26, 2011 — Following a contract signed with Keppel Merlimau Cogen Pte Ltd to build a new 2x400 MW power plant in Singapore in October 2010, Alstom begins work on the second 400 MW unit, which is worth about $438 million.

KMC is a unit of Keppel Energy Pte Ltd, the energy generation division of Singapore-based Keppel Corp.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract includes the construction of two 400 MW gas-fired combined cycle units and the associated long-term service agreements.

Alstom is providing the entire plant and all associated equipment, including two GT26 natural gas turbines, two steam turbines and two heat recovery steam generators and the ALSPA Series 6 integrated control system.

When completed, the new power plant will increase the KMC's production capacity to 1,300 MW, highlighting KMC's role as one of Singapore's main energy providers at around 10 percent of the country's capacity for electricity generation.

Alstom also built KMC's existing 2x250 MW combined cycle power plant, which entered commercial operation in 2007, on which Alstom is currently carrying out an 18-year operation and maintenance contract. This highlights the strength of Alstom's relationship with KMC.
