GE 220 MW combined cycle plant to power Russian city

Moscow, March 17, 2011—Russian power generation company TGK-9, an affiliate of Integrated Energy Systems, has selected advanced gas turbine technology from GE for a combined-cycle plant that will supply heat and electricity for the residents of Berezniki, an industrial city in Russia's Urals Federal District.

The project supports the Russian government's initiative to continue to modernize its energy infrastructure and to meet the country's growing power needs.

GE will supply two Frame 6FA natural gas turbine and associated generators plus technical assistance, on-site training and performance testing for the combined cycle project, which is expected to produce 220 MW of new power for the region.

The electricity will be distributed under an agreement between the Russian Ministry of Energy and IES, Russia's largest private power supply and gas distribution company.

GE's 6FA gas turbines are designed to deliver advanced performance in midrange combined-cycle power plants as well as industrial and cogeneration applications. More than 100 units are installed globally and with more than 3 million hours of service, the 6FA is one of the most qualified gas turbines in its class.

GE has been operating in Russia since the early 20th century and today has 2,500 employees in the country. The company is represented across the country in multiple industries: healthcare, transportation, aviation, electric power, oil and gas, water treatment, financial services, media, appliances, lighting and intelligent platforms.
