Alstom Power to modernize steam turbine at Finnish power plant

Paris, March 24, 2011 — Alstom Power has been awarded a contract to modernize the high pressure section of a 145 MW LMZ steam turbine at Oulu Energy's Toppila unit 2 power plant in Oulu, Northern Finland. The contract value is about $8.47 million.

Alstom's scope includes a complete HP turbine retrofit covering engineering, manufacturing, and transportation of the new HP module, as well as disassembly of the old module and erection and commissioning of the new module.

The turbine retrofit will significantly improve the HP turbine's efficiency and provide increased output. The replacement work at the site will be performed in July 2012 in a span of 35 days.

Toppila power plant produces electricity and district heating from wood and peat for the city of Oulu in Northern Finland. The two units of the power plant provide 210 MW of electricity and 340 MWth of district heating, constituting about 40 percent of the electricity and about 90 percent of the district heat produced by Oulu Energy power plants in Finland.
