Microturbine CHP for Belarus cardiac centre

A microturbine-based combined heat and power (CHP) plant was commissioned this week in Minsk, Belarus.

The 196 kWe/345 kWth plant will supply power, heat and hot water for the Ministry of Health’s Scientific and Practical Centre for Cardiology. The plant is comprised of three microturbines with integrated heat recovery modules and booster compressors, Russia-based installer BPC Engineering said.

According to BPC, the installation's Capstone microturbines run in parallel with the grid and cover almost 60% the centre's power demand, including the intensive care and surgical units. In case of blackouts, power generating units automatically switch into standalone mode.

Dr Alexander Mrochek, the Centre’s director, said at the commissioning ceremony that the new plant will eliminate the risk of blackouts which could be fatal to cardiac patients.
