Luxembourg city district heating scheme inaugurated

The new Ban de Gasperich district heating centre in Luxembourg City has been inaugurated at a ceremony this week by City mayor Lydie Polfer.

Luxembourg Wort reports that one of the city’s newest neigbourhoods, Ban de Gasperich will be supplied by the heating centre housed at the ECCO building located on Avenue F.W. Raiffeisen.
"Good things come to those who wait," the Mayor said on Tuesday with reference to the 13 year wait for the building to move from discussion to completion.

The district heating centre will be operated by Lux-Energy and all new buildings to be built in the Ban de Gasperich will be connected to this district heating network.

Heat generated by an incinerator at Sidor in  Leudelange will be destined for the Ban de Gasperich. This means that not only electricity is generated by the  Leudelange plant, but the remaining heat will also be used sensibly.

The heat will pass by headquarters located at the roundabout in Gasperich that currently holds gas boilers. These will be used only at peak times when demand is high or maintenance is required in Leudelange.

Around 80 to 85% of heating demand on the Ban de Gasperich and Cloche d'Or industrial zone, will be supplied from Leudelange. The remaining 15 to 20% will be produced in the district's heating centre by gas boilers. By the end of 2018 all supply pipes should be laid.
