ABB launches modular microgrid system

Zurich-based ABB has launched a modular microgrid system aimed at supporting the use of on-site renewables.

The containerized unit includes battery energy storage and the firm’s microgrid control system.

It is available in four predesigned models ranging from 50 kW to 4600 kW, and ABB said all of the units are able to operate off-grid and in grid-connected mode with seamless transition.

Operation and maintenance are performed via a cloud-based remote service system.

The company said its ‘plug and play’ microgrid solution addresses the globally growing demand for flexible distributed power generation technology in developing markets, and is aimed at maximizing the use of renewable energy sources while reducing dependence on fossil-fuelled gensets.
