Recycled small wind system powers Vietnamese community

An on-site wind power system made from recycled components is now providing electricity for a Vietnamese community, business news site Small Business Trends reports.

The ‘blades’ of the Red River community’s 10 small wind turbines are made from plastic buckets, with discarded printer motors generating power and motorcycle batteries used for energy storage.

The cost of the recycled turbines is around $44 in total. The system was reportedly donated to the community by its inventor.  

The one-of-a-kind system provides power for around 14 families, who would otherwise have to pay around $15 per month for unreliable grid power.
