Construction of Connecticut microgrid commences

The US city of Hartford, Connecticut is the site of construction by Constellation and Bloom Energy, of a fu Hartford Connecticut el-cell powered microgrid system that will mitigate costs and supply backup for a part of the Parkville neighbourhood of the city.

The 800 KW microgrid system will, during non-emergency operation, power four buildings – an elementary school, a library, a senior centre and a health facility. In emergency mode, those buildings will be power and a fuel station and grocery store added. Excess electricity will help power four other schools.

The project is the first being developed through Connecticut’s Department of Energy & Environmental Protection’s Microgrid Grant Program. GI Energy is working with the city on the project.
