Enerswede AB, the official Ansaldo Energia microturbine distributor for Scandinavia, has just successfully completed the commissioning of two AE-T100B biogas-fuelled microturbines at a Norwegian wastewater treatment plant.

The installation represents a first for Ansaldo Energia and Enerswede in Norway.

Enerswede owner Johan Hall told Decentralized Energy the commissioning was the final phase of an articulated chain of both technical and commercial steps involved in the deal, which saw Enerswede supply and commission a complete turnkey CHP plant for client Purac.

Mr Hall highlighted the ‘strategic importance of this first Norwegian CHP plant, having the aim to be the first of a long series in Norway, like other Swedish sewage plants already equipped with Ansaldo Energia Micro Turbines.’

Norway has recently introduced green certificates for production of electricity from biogas further reducing the payback time on investment in electricity production from sewage gas.

The two AE-T100B will enable the CHP plant to produce 200 kWe to be used in the facility’s electrical loads and more than 330 kWt in the form of hot water, principally utilised for heating-up the anaerobic sewage sludge digester but also to warm the WWTP’s office buildings.

The plant will treat sewage from more than 20 000 households as well as industries in the municipality of Eidsvoll at Bårlidalens waste water plant.

Riccardo Ori, Sales, Micro Turbines at Ansaldo Energia said, “Enerswede is a well-known point of reference in Scandinavia for Ansaldo Energia micro gas turbine technology.

“Its main quality is in its long and deep experience in this kind of biogas installation. AE-T100B represents a good solution mainly to accepting a wider level of biogas composition than other technologies, especially in terms of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and total siloxanes concentrations.”
