Valmet to automate Finnish district heating plant

Valmet has received an order to supply automation for a new biomass-fired boiler plant in the town of Loviisa in Finland.

The 10 MW plant is currently under construction, with commissioning of the automation planned for April 2016.

Operated by utility Porvoon Energia Oy and fuelled with bark and wood chips, the plant will add to Loviisa’s district heating capacity and will be the main production plant in the network. It will be remotely controlled from a biomass-fired power plant in the port city of Tolkkinen.

Under the terms of the contract, Valmet will deliver a Valmet DNA automation system (pictured), a safety interlocking system, engineering, installation and commissioning.

The value of the order was not disclosed.
