According to a report in Reuters, quoting a Rio 2016 spokesman, the long-time Olympic power provider Aggreko has pulled out of a tender to supply generators for the games.

With Rio already under pressure to finalise its clean energy contracts the news agency refers to the alleged pull-out of the experienced Glasgow-based temporary power provider as having dealt a major blow to organizers rushing to secure an energy source for the world's largest sporting event.

In response to a request for more information from COSPP online to the news, the company said, “Aggreko notes media reports that it has withdrawn from the bidding process for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic and Paralympic Games. The tender process is ongoing and as such Aggreko is unable to comment further at this stage.”
