'Responsive CHP' system for London regeneration scheme

A combined heat and power (CHP) plant is to be installed as part of an urban regeneration scheme at one of Europe’s largest public housing estates.

The plant, to be located on the 2700-home Aylesbury Estate in London, UK, will provide power and heat to 162 apartments from a central energy centre.

For the plant, consulting engineers XCO2 Energy have specified a responsive CHP system from heating and ventilation firm SAV. The company says its system is designed to ‘address the key issues that constrain the performance of conventional “fixed output” CHP’.

SAV says the system tracks electrical demand and modulates its output accordingly, while storing any surplus heat. It also incorporates a heat distributor that maintains a constant flow temperature.

Construction work on the four-phase regeneration project will begin in 2016 and is planned for completion in 2024.
