Abengoa to develop UAE cogen project

A cogeneration project is to be developed to cover the power and steam requirements for Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) at its Al Taweelah complex in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Abengoa, responsible for the engineering, design and construction, will construct the plant a capacity of 220 MWe and up to 600 tonnes of steam per hour.

Under the terms of a letter of award, Abengoa is to carry out the engineering and construction work, initially undertaking preparatory works worth approximately $50 million. These works comprise basic and detailed engineering and the purchase of long lead items. The overall contract is worth approximately $215 million.
