Solar façade installed in Beirut

A newly created skyscraper in the Ashrafieh district of Beirut in Lebanon is home to a solar photovoltaic (PV) façade.

Covering about 20% of the building, known as ‘20|30Tower’ (pictured), the curved facade was supplied by Calyxo GmbH and includes some 2400 thin-film solar modules. The contract was completed by local partner ECOsys.

A mounting system designed specifically for this building holds the installation up to a height of 135 metres. The solar output of 185 kWp supports the electrical power supply of the building.

‘We hope very much that this project will serve as a positive example of Beirut - as an energy efficient model for future planning,’ said Marcello Lo Mauro, architect.
