New York college gets $13.5m cogeneration lift

A new science laboratory at the Adelphi University, based in New York State, USA, will include a combined heat and power system and is scheduled for completion in 2016.

A new floor of the building at the College of Arts and Sciences will provide new faculty offices and two computer labs. As part of the project, Ecosystem Energy Services is the engineering lead for the installation of a 1.99 MWe CHP plant.

The US$13.5 million project is expected to be paid back in eight years. Construction has already begun and will continue to the end of 2016.

Adelphi’s campus already uses 100% green power and has on-site solar PV generation.

Installation of the cogen plant will result in approximately US$1.5 million in energy savings annually.
