Flue gas scrubber for Finnish district heating plant

In a move to increase energy efficiency and reduce emissions, a Finnish district heating producer has invested in a new flue gas scrubber from boiler plant equipment firm KPA Unicon.

The 6.25 MWth scrubber will be delivered to the Pieksämäki power and district heating plant in eastern Finland, operated by utility Savon Voima. The scrubber is expected to boost heat production enough to supply an additional 100 apartment buildings, and to reduce CO2 and SO2 emissions by over 10%.

‘Our target in the district heat production is to reach a nearly 100% utilisation rate of domestic fuels. This new investment reduces the use of oil in energy production. For our customers, the investment will be reflected in steady production costs which in turn means steady price trends,’ said Maija Henell, Savon Voima’s business director.
