Schools in California buy in on 8 MW of on-site solar

SunEdison Inc has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with the Rialto Unified School District in California, US for 8.4 MW of solar power. As part of the agreement, SunEdison will install solar canopies above the parking lots of all 28 schools in the district.

The solar canopies are expected to save the school district some 20% on its electricity bill, around $1 million a year, and some $30 million over the 20 year term of the contract.

They are due to be completed by the first half of 2016.
