UK decentralised energy bodies agree to merge

The Association for Decentralised Energy and the UK Demand Response Association have announced plans to merge the two organisations at a reception in the Houses of Parliament.

According to a statement, the merger, announced on Wednesday, has been created with a view to creating a strong singular voice for the UK's decentralised energy sector. The merged organisation will be known as the Association for Decentra Tim Rotheray lised Energy.

ADE Director
Dr Tim Rotheray said: "These two associations are linked by their vision of an energy system that starts with the customer."

“Demand side measures could save energy customers £5.6 billion in fuel and power costs, but to unlock this potential, the customer must be put at the centre of the energy system and all options must be able to compete on a level playing field.

“The UKDRA has had a key role highlighting the value of managing demand, rather than building more power stations, to meet our energy needs. By bringing these two organisations together, we will strengthen the voice for a more cost effective, less wasteful, low carbon energy system that puts the customer at the centre.”

Meanwhile Sara Bell, a UKDRA director commented:“The expertise in demand response brought by the UKDRA is an ideal fit with the ADE's membership and activity. With increasing focus on how we can use our energy resources more efficiently, now is the opportune time to present a united voice that will not only benefit the demand side sector, but all energy customers."
